Giving a tired board a new lease of life, inspired by the ocean and the coast of Cornwall.

Each surfboard creates a unique and bold statement piece, an unsubtle way of showcasing the ocean in the home. Each one starts its journey reclaimed and saved from a purpose destined for landfill. To give each piece a new lease of life, it is then upcycled and lovingly painted to bring a beautiful representation of the ocean. Whether this is one that has caught your eye from my collection, or a fully commissioned piece - you can find a piece that can reflect your connection to the coast.

I source all surfboards carefully, for a board that can tell its own story, retired boards looking for a new chance instead of being thrown into landfill. Allowing the process to be sustainable, each finished artwork is original and built to last.

Each surfboard artwork is an original piece creating a one off unique statement.

Bringing retired boards back to life with a new purpose, imaginative creation developed in my studio through layers of meticulous detail, pigments and textures featuring brushwork for added flair and expression throughout.

Please note :- There is only a small number of surfboard slots available each year - this is based on the time it takes to create such pieces and the detail involved in the craftsmanship to ensure a high quality finish.

COMMISSIONS

PROCESS:

There are FOUR main options that I focus on when commissions are open. First you would choose the theme in which you would like the finished viewpoint to showcase - then we discuss the overall feel of the piece that you aim to receive, this could entail colour palette, composition through rendered sketches, location, a memory or a scene. I then repair and prep the board for painting. Through each step - you get to see process shots as the board progresses to its final stages as I keep you updated throughout. 

The four options to choose from are as follows:

  • UNDERWATER
  • WAVES
  • BEACH/COASTAL SCENE
  • SEA CREATURE

Once finished - The board goes through a delicate layering process of gloss coats to ensure the artwork stays protected over time. Wall mounted surfboard hooks will also be provided with each piece ready for installation - I do not add hangers to the back of the board as I like to leave the back in its own form - displaying makers marks, sponsors and any small wear the board had endured during its time at sea. This allows the board to tell its story; the memories it holds and the journeys faced.

Pricing & Information

Please allow a process time of 5-9 weeks - Any shipping delays may also add to this timeframe so please enquire early if you have a specific date in mind.

My commissioned surfboards vary in pricing - a bespoke one of a kind artwork on a surfboard is a statement piece as well as a story to be told. Each one requires attention in planning, repairing and executing the final piece and can differ in time and detailing for each one. 

However, Pricing examples can be seen below - this is based on theme / detail and estimated timeframe. - (Boards averaging 6ft / 180cm in length)

  • UNDERWATER - A hand painted, abstract and imaginative piece showcasing an underwater viewpoint, this could be deep seabed, a moody toned atmospheric feeling, seaweed scenes or from under the surface reflections - expressionist and brush textured to create a unique and contemporary artwork. Landscape or portrait - prices start from £1,500.

  • WAVES - A hand painted, abstract or detailed depiction of a close up wave, breaking, crashing or at peak - this wave will span across the entire board, finished with unpredictable splattering to create a sense of movement and ocean tranquillity featuring seafoam and reflections. Landscape - Prices start from £2,000

  • BEACH/COASTAL SCENES - A hand painted board featuring your desired coastal location or beach scene, a detailed depiction of the location with expressionist brush strokes and styling, traveling to the location for photography/research to reference for the painting process. Landscape - Prices start from £2,500

  • SEA CREATURES - A hand painted, highly detailed board featuring a large scale sea creature of choice and abstract ocean background. Landscape or portrait - Prices start from £3,000 - please enquire for pricing for additional aspects.
