About the Artist

HLSdesigner is developed by Hannah Louise Singleton.

A recognised fine artist and Illustrator from Cornwall, United Kingdom. 

To have that passion for art passed down through generations is something I take pride in sharing with others.

Starting life from Warrington and introduced to painting from a very young age, my father at his easel painting galleons, ships, tigers and cottages. I sat beside him to watch, each stage getting more detailed as the brushstrokes landed. Sitting on a stool, legs barely reaching over the side - he told me ways in which he achieved layering and textures. After that - I was hooked. My father began teaching me, his painting next to my little one, I pick up the paint and dab it onto the canvas, he would teach me how to hold the brushes, to look after them properly as they are now the life force between yourself and your canvas. 

As time went on, the techniques increased. More painting, sketching, drawing mathematical perspectives with tiling techniques, gridwork and traditional values. Throughout the rest of my life, we would paint together. When I was 12, we made the journey down to Cornwall, for a permanent life surrounded by the ocean. This is a place I felt at peace, it didn't feel like a move away for me, it felt like a coming home. A place I should be.

As time went on, the years going by, growing up and entering courses, colleges and university - art had always followed me, it was a part of my life and always involved within my studies. In our free time, we would head down to the harbour, to the beaches, to the most picturesque locations. Unpack our brushes and watercolours and paint away. At times one of us would be fishing and the other sketching, this happened for years and since those times, I have held onto those memories. The best days of our lives.  

Although times have now changed and my father now passed. I still pay tribute to him throughout every piece of artwork that I create, thinking of him, what would Dad say, what would he teach me, mixing that with skills I have also developed from studies. To create beautiful sentiments, paint memories onto canvas, to showcase statements and feeling within textures and composition.

Artistry has been flowing through my family for generations, my father - a locally known artist who specialised in contemporary and minimalistic depictions of Cornish towns and coasts and my Auntie, was also a known artist, oil and watercolour paintings I remember being stacked in the hundreds at her home studio, I have since been lucky enough to inherit one of my aunties easels and from my father, his collection of artworks and brushes - those tools he taught me to cherish from the age of 3 onwards. Will always remain close to me. 

Becoming a full time artist myself, I am also slowly reproducing my late fathers works into a collection, this way - his work still lives on and can remain collectable to many who adore his art style and his story. - To see his works and follow the progress as I slowly release more of his work, see the Cornish Scenes section of my print collections. 

I like to create emotion from expressionist movements and techniques, inspired by the ever changing behavioural capabilities of the ocean. Creating various artworks using oil paint, acrylic and mixed media, I keep in mind the wondrous emotion that redevelops the questions that come to many; the unexplored planes along the ocean floor, the sea creatures and lost sense of safety amongst the unpredictable tide. Documenting my own feelings throughout the brushstrokes and textures, to capture scenes and events as we see and imagine them to share the beauty of the world we live in.

Inviting the viewer to observe nature in diverse ways, the inspiration and passion I have when working my way through a painting allows me to explore many different paths while maintaining the presence of the sea and those aspects involved with it. 

Currently working through a range of collectable imagery, I graduated with an FDA and BA (hons) in Fine art and Silversmithing. Previously creating sterling silver and fine gold jewellery, it is developing these techniques - that then pushed back into fine art with the added detail and eye for realism. 

Presenting the ocean in an unusual context with the beauty of the south west, I have re captured my passion to create fine art and now work to develop a range of original paintings and prints to bring the ocean to your front door.

My collection is constantly growing, from the surfaces that I paint on, to the evolving range of illustration and home décor ranges. Throughout this practice, I have tried and tested many crafts, techniques and styles to develop my skillset. 

In September of 2025, I opened my very first physical gallery and gift shop. Located in the heart of Newquay, it is growing every day and makes me feel extremely grateful when I hear customers say how my artwork makes them feel, the emotions that it can trigger, the memories that come to mind when my work is observed, allowing my customers to collect their favourite pieces directly from the artist, to see them close up and personal as well as offer a whole range of hand designed and hand made home furnishings, décor, gifts and collectibles alongside a tribute wall dedicated to my father - for without him, I would never have found my passion for creativity.
